The Hobart Adventurer Day Tour is perfect for anybody keen to see as much as possible of the Hobart area in a well organised and fun day trip. Tasmania is world renowned for its natural beauty and amazing native wildlife, so of course the focus of the tour is on exploring the beautiful natural surrounds and meeting a bunch of adorable animals.
The Hobart Adventurer Day Tour is the only day tour which takes in both Lake Dobson at Mount Field National Park and the kunanyi/Mount Wellington summit. We firmly believe that any trip to Mount Field needs to head up to the alpine region of the park as it’s truly one of the most magical parts of Tasmania. This sense of adventure is reflected throughout the tour as our friendly local guides make it their mission to ensure every guest has an amazing time and takes home a bunch of awesome memories.
A note on accessibility:
While we aim to be as inclusive as possible and cater for all ages, backgrounds and abilities, some of the activities and locations in this tour require a small level of physical fitness to fully enjoy. We will endeavor to provide alternate activities if necessary (within reason), but if you are unsure about any elements of the tour, please don’t hesitate to contact us at admin@tasadventureco.com.au.
The minimum age for guests for The Hobart Adventurer Day Tour is 8 years old.
- Transportation for the duration of the tour in a safe, comfortable and fully compliant vehicle
- Entry to all National Parks visited during the tour
- Water refills for your own personal water bottle
As the tour has some active elements, we recommend guests wear comfortable clothing and shoes appropriate for short walks (sneakers are perfect). As we venture into some alpine regions where the weather can be highly variable, guests are encouraged to plan for a ‘four seasons’ in a day climate.
The following items are recommended for all guests:
- Water bottle (750ml to 1L)
- Rain jacket
- Hat, sunscreen and sunglasses
- Lunch and light snacks (we stop for lunch in New Norfolk where guests can purchase food if necessary)
- Any required personal medication
We look after the planning
The Hobart Adventurer Day Tour was born from a desire to showcase the best of Hobart to travellers who have a passion for adventure and exploring beautiful places, while not having to stress about planning and logistics. Let us do the organising so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey!
We go the extra yard for our guests
We always strive to deliver high-quality and wholesome experiences, going above and beyond for or our guests to ensure they take home countless fond memories, a bunch of new friends and a smile on their face. Nothing is too much to ask and we take great pride in supporting our guests as we travel around.
We provide amazing value for money
We understand that the current cost of living is putting the pinch on spending and value for money is subsequently more important than ever. The Hobart Adventurer Day Tour is perfect for budget conscious travellers as it’s placed at a market-leading price point without sacrificing quality.
We’re 100% Tasmanian owned and operated
Based out of Hobart, we always operate with the mantra ‘travel like a local’ and our tours reflect this with itineraries geared towards local highlights and quality accommodation, knowledgeable and friendly local tour guides, and a strong culture of safe and sustainable practices.
We only have small groups on our tours
Many similar guided group tours of Tasmania have group sizes above 20, which means half of the trip is spent organising guests and the whole experience is less wholesome and personal than a tour with a smaller group. Our tours have a maximum of 7 people, allowing for less delays and more time enjoying the amazing destinations and landscapes of Tasmania.
Detailed Tour Itinerary
Please note that while we always do our best to stick to the advertised tour itinerary, the itinerary is subject to change at anytime.

Destination 1 | Mount Field National Park (Lake Dobson)
Approximate time at destination: 60 minutes
The Hobart Adventurer Day Tour kicks off with a visit to the gorgeous Lake Dobson in the alpine area of Mount Field National Park (a Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area). Sitting at around 1,000m above sea level, Lake Dobson is a superb backdrop for the lush native flora which thrives along its shores, as well as being home to a population of friendly platypus.
Tour guests have the opportunity here to complete the fantastic Pandani Grove Nature Walk, an easy 1.5km circuit around Lake Dobson through native pandani (giant grass trees), impressive alpine gums and soft tree ferns. It’s a truly beautiful part of the world with remarkably clean air and a great place to unwind and escape the rush of everyday life.

Destination 2 | Mount Field National Park (Russell Falls and Horseshoe Falls)
Approximate time at destination: 60 minutes
Once we are finished at Lake Dobson, we head back down to the Mount Field Visitor Centre where we begin the short 1.4km walk up to the stunning Russell Falls, Tasmania’s most photographed waterfall. The walk up through the lush mossy cool-temperate rainforest is as magnificent as the falls themselves, with plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the native flora and fauna.
A short walk up a set of stairs next to Russell Falls leads to the mystical Horseshoe Falls, with the cascading water here adding to the fairytale like ambience of the area. Guests have around an hour to complete the circuit, allowing for a relaxed slow pace to take it all in.

Destination 3 | Lunch in historic New Norfolk
Approximate time at destination: 30 minutes
From Mount Field National Park, we head back towards Hobart, stopping in the Derwent Valley in the quaint historic town of New Norfolk for lunch. Guests can purchase food and drinks here at one of the fantastic cafes, bakeries or restaurants, and there is a large supermarket available as well.

Destination 4 | Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
Approximate time at destination: 90 minutes
Our afternoon on the Hobart Adventurer Day Tour begins with a stop at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of native animals, including wombats, echidnas, kangaroos, quolls, and of course the famed Tasmanian Devil.
A 30-minute guided tour is included as a part of the admission fee to Bonorong, where guests will learn about three native species from one of the knowledgeable and friendly keepers at the sanctuary. Admission fees are $35.50 for adults and $20.50 for children (not included in tour price).

Destination 5 | kunanyi/Mount Wellington Summit
Approximate time at destination: 60 minutes
Our day tour concludes with a trip up to the summit of the spectacular kunanyi/Mount Wellington – another must see destination for travellers to Hobart. Rising up 1,271 metres above the city, the views from the summit out over Hobart and the Derwent River on a clear day are simply stunning, with the views out towards the wild mountains of the Southwest National Park just as impressive.
There are a number of dedicated viewing platforms on the summit where guests can take photos, as well as the pinnacle observation shelter which has a series of interesting information placards. Guests have around an hour to enjoy all of the sights of summit, before descending back down the mountain road to Hobart where guests will be dropped off at their CBD accommodation.
