The Classic Lap of Tassie is designed for those adventurous people who want to see as much as possible of Tasmania in a relatively short amount of time, with a real focus on the natural beauty and the main attractions of the island, with some ‘off-the-beaten track’ destinations thrown in as well. With a maximum group size of 10 and completing the lap over a leisurely 6 days, this fully guided tour is perfect for those travellers who prefer a more tailored and wholesome experience at a slower pace than what’s provided on the mainstream large multi-day tours.
Over the 6 days of the tour there are highlights galore, including visiting no less than 8 National Parks and Conservation Areas, stopping off at the world-famous Cradle Mountain National Park, the stunning Freycinet National Park (location of one of the top 10 beaches in the world at Wineglass Bay), Maria Island National Park and its friendly wombats, and the mystical Mole Creek Caves. The natural beauty is non-stop on the Classic Lap, and tour guests quickly gain an appreciation for why mainland Australians consider Tasmania an outdoor enthusiast’s dream.
The highlights don’t stop with the National Parks, with visits to some of the most unique places in Tasmania also included in the itinerary. These include the East Coast Natureworld where guests can see Tasmanian Devils and other native Australian wildlife, Treetops Adventure Park where guests can zip-line and climb through some towering native forest, as well as the beautiful Cataract Gorge in Launceston.
With so many highlights packed into such a short amount of time, we have no doubt all guests of the Classic Lap will go home with a heap of amazing memories and spectacular photos, as well as a bunch of new friends and stories to tell.
To keep the tour price down, accommodation for the Classic Lap is shared dormitory style, so guests will need to be comfortable sharing a space with others. We always do our best to accommodate any requests for rooming preferences (i.e. single gender) where possible. Meals and other food items are not included and will be the responsibility of tour guests.
A note on accessibility:
While we aim to be as inclusive as possible and cater for all ages, backgrounds and abilities, most of the activities and locations in this tour require a base level of physical fitness to fully enjoy. We will endeavor to provide alternate activities if necessary (within reason), but if you are unsure about any elements of the tour, please don’t hesitate to contact us at admin@tasadventureco.com.au.

We look after the planning
The Ultimate Lap of Tassie was born from a desire to showcase the best of Tasmania to travellers who have a passion for adventure and exploring beautiful places, while not having to stress about planning and logistics. Let us do the organising so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey!
We go the extra yard for our guests
We always strive to deliver high-quality and wholesome experiences, going above and beyond for or our guests to ensure they take home countless fond memories, a bunch of new friends and a smile on their face. Nothing is too much to ask and we take great pride in supporting our guests as we travel around.
We provide amazing value for money
We understand that the current cost of living is putting the pinch on spending and value for money is subsequently more important than ever. The Classic Lap is perfect for budget conscious travellers as it’s placed at a market-leading price point without sacrificing quality.
We’re 100% Tasmanian owned and operated
Based out of Hobart, we always operate with the mantra ‘travel like a local’ and our tours reflect this with itineraries geared towards local highlights and quality accommodation, knowledgeable and friendly local tour guides, and a strong culture of safe and sustainable practices.
We only have small groups on our tours
Many similar multi-day guided group tours of Tasmania have group sizes above 20, which means half of the trip is spent organising guests and the whole experience is less wholesome and personal than a tour with a smaller group. Our tours have a maximum of 10 people, allowing for less delays and more time enjoying the amazing destinations and landscapes of Tasmania.
Tour Itinerary
Please note that while we always do our best to stick to the advertised tour itinerary, the itinerary is subject to change at anytime.

Day 1 | Hobart to Swansea
- Hang out with the local wombats on the stunning Maria Island
- Visit the iconic Three Arch Bridge and Spiky Bridge – relics from a bygone era
- Enjoy a sunset in the gorgeous coastal town of Swansea with its epic views over the Hazards Mountain Range

The Classic Lap of Tassie begins with your friendly local guide collecting you from your Hobart CBD Accommodation, before hitting the road to our first destination, the amazing Maria Island. During the short drive your guide will give you a run-down of what to expect on the tour, and you’ll also have a good chance to get to know your new travel mates as we head towards the east coast.
The morning is spent exploring Maria Island, with its rugged and spectacular untouched beaches and adorable wombats and other native wildlife, it’s one of the most unique parts of Australia and a must-do for any travelers to Tasmania. The island also has an interesting history to dive into, with a variety of different eras featuring before it was declared a National Park in 1971.
Once we are back from the island, we conclude day 1 with a visit to the interesting Three Arch and Spiky Bridges, which are fascinating relics from the Tasmanian convict era, before heading to our night 1 accommodation in the quaint seaside town of Swansea, where the sunsets looking out over the Hazards Mountain Range of the Freycinet Peninsula can be stunning.

Day 2 | Swansea to St Helens
- Kick back on a cruise around the Freycinet Peninsula to the world-famous Wineglass Bay (optional extra)
- Hike to the summit of Mount Amos, or an easier wander up to the Wineglass Bay Lookout for amazing views of the bay and Mount Freycinet
- Get amongst some native Australian wildlife at the East Coast Natureworld wildlife park
- Keep an eye out for a bioluminescent show in the waters off St Helens once the sun sets

As if day 1 didn’t feature enough highlights, day 2 kicks off with a visit to Freycinet National Park, without a doubt one of the most picturesque destinations in Australia. Tour guests have the choice of heading out on a morning cruise around the Freycinet Peninsula and into Wineglass Bay (optional extra), or exploring on foot, either up the impressive granite boulders of Mt Amos, or a more laid-back walk up to the Wineglass Bay Lookout – camera compulsory for the epic views whichever option you choose!
The action continues after a lazy lunch at Honeymoon Bay, as we head to the East Coast Natureworld wildlife park where there is an abundance of native Australian animals to see, including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas and quolls. There is also a daily Tasmanian Devil feeding experience included which is a must-do for any visitors to the island.
We continue our adventure up the east coast to finish the day, heading to St Helens which is the gateway to the famous Bay of Fires region and our stop for night 2. Guests can often see impressive bioluminescent displays on the beaches around St Helens at night, so it’s worth heading out for a walk after the sun sets.

Day 3 | St Helens to Launceston
- Soak up the sun on the white sandy beaches of the renowned Bay of Fires
- Experience the exhilaration of a Treetops Adventure as you zip-line, climb, mountain bike or even segway your way through the fabulous Hollybank Forest (optional extra)
- Enjoy the scenery of the stunning 65-million-year-old Cataract Gorge and ride the famous Gorge Chairlift (optional extra)
- Discover why Launceston was recently named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy as you explore the historical ‘capital of the North’

Day 3 is action packed and one of the best of the tour, with our morning spent beach-hopping along the serene coastline of the Bay of Fires Conservation Area, where the soft white sand, aqua blue water and bright orange lichen covered rocks are a recipe for a great way to start the day. A cool dip at one of the beaches is highly recommended to truly experience the Tasmanian way of life.
We say goodbye to the east coast in the afternoon and head over to the Treetops Adventure Park in the mystical Hollybank Forest. Here guests have an opportunity to get the adrenaline pumping with zip-lining, high ropes or a forest segway tour (optional extra). For those happy to keep their feet on the ground, a peaceful walk through the gorgeous native forest is also an option.
The impressive Cataract Gorge in the city of Launceston is our final day 3 stop, where guests are able to admire the giant cliffs and powerful rapids on a wander up the gorge, or even enjoy a ride up and down the famous Cataract Gorge Scenic Chairlift (optional extra).
We spend the night in the centre of Launceston, where excellent dinner options are plentiful and there are plenty of interesting landmarks within walking distance of our accommodation, including the Queen Victoria Museum, the James Boag Brewery and City Park.

Day 4 | Launceston to Cradle Mountain
- Start the day immersed in some culinary delights at the famous Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market
- Adventure into the underground world of the mystical Mole Creek Caves on a local guided tour
- Watch the scenery change dramatically as we ascend to the Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park, a UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area

Our morning in Launceston starts at the Harvest Community Farmers Market, where guests can sample some of the amazing local produce including all kinds of different locally grown fruits, gourmet cheeses, oysters, olives, pastries and nuts – it’s truly a food lovers dream!
From Launceston we journey west to the Mole Creek Caves, with a guided tour through the remarkable Marakoopa Cave a highlight of the day. The underground tour takes in the expansive Great Cathedral and Australia’s largest public glow-worm display, along with many other impressive features.
Our day 4 adventure continues in the afternoon as we ascend up to the Cradle Mountain National Park. The change in scenery is dramatic as we enter this alpine region, one of the most spectacular in Tasmania. A short walk in the park through the captivating Enchanted Forest to the Pencil Pine and Knyvet Waterfalls is a perfect way to end the day.
Our night 4 accommodation is pretty special as we stay in the National Park at the Cradle Mountain Discovery Resort, a unique experience in itself as the native wildlife is abundant in the area, especially at dawn and dusk.

Day 5 | Cradle Mountain to Strahan
- Journey up to Dove Lake at the base of Cradle Mountain, one of the most picturesque destinations in Tasmania
- Take in the remote wilderness and rainforest as we descend to the Wild West Coast
- Watch the sunset over the Southern Ocean at Tasmania’s longest beach, Ocean Beach, just outside of the historical township of Strahan.

Rising with the sights, sounds and smells of the pristine Cradle Mountain National Park, we begin day 5 by jumping on the shuttle bus up to Dove Lake. Safe to say this is an amazing way to start the day as Dove Lake is at the top of many Tasmanian travellers’ lists. It’s easy to see why, with panoramic views of Cradle Mountain and the alpine forest and lakes only a short walk away.
Once we depart Cradle Mountain, guests can spend the afternoon sitting back and relaxing as we descend down to the west coast, a region interspersed with lush native rainforest, remote coastline, lakes and historical mining towns. Your guide will provide the group with some interesting history and stories of the area, which has played a key role in the development of Tasmania.
We spend our final night in the beautiful and historic west coast town of Strahan. After dinner, guests have the option to watch the sunset over nearby Ocean Beach (Tasmania’s longest beach), a fitting and memorable way to end another epic day.

Day 6 | Strahan to Hobart
- Learn about the history of the old West Coast mining town of Queenstown
- Visit Australia’s deepest freshwater Lake, Lake St Clair, which is also one of the gateways to the world-famous Overland Track
- Wander up to the gorgeous Russell Falls in the temperate rainforest of Mount Field National Park

A quick adventure to the old mining town of Queenstown kicks off our final day of our tour of Tasmania, with the views from the Iron Blow lookout providing a nice perspective on the interesting landscape of the area.
From Queenstown, we journey back up into the mountains to Lake St Clair, Tasmania’s deepest freshwater lake (167m deep!) which was carved out by glacial ice over millions of years. Lake St Clair also marks the endpoint of the famous Overland Track, traversed by thousands of keen hikers every year.
Our final afternoon together is spent at the glorious Mount Field National Park, home to the photogenic Russell Falls where pristine water from the high-country cascades down through stunning rainforest – a glorious place to end the trip.
A short drive gets us back into Hobart where our guide will drop you off at your CBD accommodation, hopefully packed full of new friends, fond memories and a whole bunch of positive energy from exploring one of the most amazing places in Australia.
